Qualifications

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Reflective Therapeutic Practice, a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling, and am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Over many years I have helped both NHS and private clients to make successful changes to their lives.

I aim to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable.
I can provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. I am here to support you and respect your views. I won't usually give advice, but will help you find your own insights into and understanding of your problems.

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe.
Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life – for example, you may feel worried and anxious about sitting an exam, or having a medical test or job interview. During times like these, feeling anxious can be perfectly normal. 
However, some people find it hard to control their worries. Their feelings of anxiety are more constant and can often affect their daily lives.

Stress causes physical changes in the body designed to help you take on threats or difficulties.
You may notice that your heart pounds, your breathing quickens, your muscles tense and you start to sweat.
This is sometimes known as the 'fight or flight' response.
Once the threat or difficulty passes, these physical effects usually fade. But if you're constantly stressed, your body stays in a state of high alert and you may develop stress-related symptoms.

Depression is more than simply feeling unhappy or fed up for a few days.
Most people go through periods of feeling down, but when you're depressed you feel persistently sad for weeks or months, rather than just a few days.
Some people think depression is trivial and not a genuine health condition. They're wrong – it is a real illness with real symptoms. 
The good news is that with the right treatment and support, most people with depression can make a full recovery.

Most people grieve when they lose something or someone important to them.
The way grief affects you depends on lots of things.
Anxiety and helplessness often come first. Anger is also common, including feeling angry at someone who has "left you behind". Sadness often comes later. 
Some people take a lot longer than others to recover. Some need help.

Therapy for Disorders

Disorders occur when your mental health is disturbed in some way. They include Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. Effective treatment may take some time, but the objective will be to help you overcome your symptoms and recover.

You may need help during long term illness, relationship breakdown, redundancy, or with sexual identity, issues preventing you achieving your ambitions, understanding yourself and your problems better, feeling more confident or developing a better understanding of other people's points of view. According to BACP research, 28% of people have consulted a counsellor or psychotherapist, 54% say that they, a family member, friend or work colleague have consulted a counsellor or psychotherapist and 69% of people think the world would be a better place if people talked about their feelings more.
